Amanda McDermott

Amanda is an experienced commercial lawyer. While her client base is diverse, she is known for her work on complex commercial matters and her ability to deliver clear, strategic outcomes. Amanda is highly skilled in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements for businesses of all sizes, with a particular interest in supporting startups, emerging ventures and clients operating in fast-evolving industries. She is also experienced in alternative dispute resolution and navigating sensitive, high-pressure matters.

Amanda’s academic excellence was recognised with multiple awards during her studies, including the prestigious Supreme Court Prize awarded by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, recognising the highest performing student at each of Victoria’s law schools. She has since been named a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Rising Star of the Year (2022) and Rising Star of the Year – Private Sector (2021).

She has demonstrated strong capability in high-stakes regulatory and investigative matters, with experience managing complex engagements involving major regulatory bodies. Amanda is adept at handling sensitive client issues and brings a composed, thoughtful approach to challenging and often highly personal matters.

Amanda contributes actively to the broader community and governance sector. She has served on the Basketball Victoria Governance Sub-Committee since November 2023 and was appointed to the Board of Directors in May 2025. She also serves on the board of the Nutrition Biomed Research Institute, where she focuses on governance and organisational development, supporting the organisation’s work in advancing research into nutrition and chronic disease.
